6 Photographers Capture Same Person But Results Are Very Different Because Of A Twist (VIDEO)

The common saying is that a picture is worth a thousand words, but what if the same subject and setting were given to 6 different photographers? Would each image still carry that much value? Thanks to a powerful social experiment put together by Canon Australia, that theory has been tested. In hopes of inspiring photographers to get behind the lens and capture what they are passionate about, Canon invited 6 photographers from different walks of life to complete a photoshoot of one man. All photographers were given the same setting to shoot their images in, as well as the same subject, wearing the exact same clothing.

The one difference: each photographer was given a different backstory for the man they were to photograph. Despite nearly every element of the shoot being identical, the difference in the end results is staggering, leaving us all with something to think about when it comes to the impact perception has on our understanding and representation of the world. Check it out: While photography may not be of interest to everyone (myself included), we all have a creative element to ourselves that is equally as important to explore as our more emphasized logical side. Whether it be art, drama, dance, music, photography, writing, or anything else of that nature, we all need to take the time to play with the talents and interests that we have. I personally believe that the biggest obstacles to us doing this regularly are poor time management and lack of self confidence. Too often we dismiss our abilities in an endless, disparaging internal monologue, particularly when it comes to creative pursuits. While we undoubtedly all live very busy lifestyles, I strongly feel that we all have the ability to create time within our schedules to explore our creative interests. Whether it requires a boost in motivation to get yourself up earlier, a shake-up to your current routine, or the letting go of something that no longer serves, we all have time to gain, and what better way to use it than on something creative that genuinely interests us? I find that the belittling of our own capabilities tends to stem from over-comparison. If we aren’t comparing ourselves to another person, we are comparing ourselves to a fictional future version of ourselves that is so gifted and well put together that living as who we are right now seems almost depressing. Rather than continuing to feed into those stories, let this video inspire you to embrace the uniqueness of who you are right now, and to remember that: A photograph (or any piece of art for that matter) is shaped more by the person behind the camera than by what is in front of it. For those who aren’t interested in watching the video but are curious about the end results from each of the photoshoots, here are the six final images selected: The Fisherman The Former Alcoholic The Millionaire The Ex-Inmate The Life Saver The Psychic What are your thoughts on this social experiment? Does the difference in results inspire you to embrace the uniqueness of how you see the world? Let us know via the comment section below! .
