New Moon In Aquarius: Considerations Around Our Relationships
We are having a New Moon in Aquarius on January 27th/28th, depending on where you are located in the world.
It will also be the Chinese New Year, initiating the year of the Fire Rooster, which always occurs during the 2nd New Moon following the December Solstice.
The Chinese associate the year of the Fire Rooster with intensity and drama, but it can also assist us productively with more focus, drive, optimism, and confidence. It is also a very opinionated and demanding energy. All of these themes make a lot of sense considering the approach that the new U.S. President Donald Trump is taking and the strong mixed and divisive feelings that the collective has toward him and his actions. We have just finished the post-shadow period of the last Mercury Retrograde, so we should now have a more defined perspective on how we shall proceed regarding adjustments in our goals, plans, responsibilities, ambitions, and/or careers. Now Venus is also just about to start its pre-shadow period on January 30th before going retrograde on March 4th.
The pre-shadow period of a planet happens when it travels through the same part of the zodiac that it will be returning to when it goes retrograde, and the post-shadow period is when it returns again following the retrograde. Some of the developments and circumstances that occur during the pre-shadow periods lead to insights, adjustments, and changes of feelings during the retrograde and in the post-shadow period. With Venus going into its pre-shadow on January 30th/31st, there may be some new developments, changes, or reconsiderations unfolding regarding relationships, money, values, pleasures, indulgences, femininity, beauty, lust, and creativity.
These Venus themes will go through a ‘figuring out’ process during the retrograde starting March 4th until the post-shadow from mid-April to mid-May.
The retrograde portion of this upcoming period will consist of some inward reflection on these Venus themes. It is common for some relationships to break up or become stronger during either the retrograde or shadow periods. This is especially true for newer relationships initiated within the previous 18 months. In some cases, people may reconnect in new ways with past relationships, both romantic and platonic. Whenever we experience a New Moon, we have the opportunity to work with the energies of that sign in new ways. Aquarius is about the collective, groups, friends, associates, and our online social network. It is about making innovative progress toward a better future with advances in knowledge and technology, and in humanitarian ways from an intellectual perspective. Aquarian energy is emotionally detached, which is great for being unbiased, but not for having an empathic understanding. Venus is in a hard square aspect with Saturn during this New Moon, which will occur again during its retrograde on April 8th/9th and in the concluding post-shadow on April 21/22. Saturn challenges Venus themes (mentioned above) with restriction, limitation, responsibilities, commitment, and the need for structure. For some people, this could be related to any new developments around our ambitions that occurred over the last month as a result of the aftermath of Mercury retrograde in Capricorn. Mars is coming home to its sign in Aries less than six hours after this New Moon. It has been in Pisces since December 19th, a time in which the way we assert ourselves has been more gentle and less direct, simply going with the flow. Now, with Mars going in Aries until March 9th, this is a time to be applying ourselves more directly and take bold action when necessary. Mercury is moving toward a conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn on January 29th/30th, which could bring penetrating, deep, and powerful thoughts or communications. For some people it may be related to our ambitions, and for others it could be related to any hidden matters or issues around power and control that surfaced in mid-late December. Mercury is also moving toward a square with Uranus in Aries that will be exact on January 31st/February 1st. At best, this can be a time of innovative thinking and insightful conversations, but it can also be a time of communication loss or impulsively breaking away from practical thinking. This can also be a time of heightened nervousness and it would be wise to be careful when doing anything potentially dangerous with your hands. How can you apply yourself collectively and socially in new ways? What area of your life can use some innovation or technological upgrade? What pleasures in your life are potentially getting in the way of your responsibilities, and/or how can you incorporate work with pleasure? What are you looking for in relationships? If you are currently dating someone, perhaps you should start thinking about if it is worthy of becoming a more serious relationship? These are some examples of what your intentions can be during this period. However, there can be many others related to this energy and what is going on in your life.
