New Moon In Leo: Exploring Our Heart’s Desires

We are having a New Moon in Leo on August 2nd/3rd, which is the beginning of the 29.5 day Moon cycle.

New Moon In Leo: Exploring Our Heart’s Desires

In astrological practice, we view New Moons as a new wave of energy, as the Sun and Moon are at the exact same point of the zodiac. It is an opportunity for us to work with the energies of that sign in new ways. Later this month, we are also entering eclipse season: there will be a Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on August 18th, a powerful Solar Eclipse in Virgo on September 1st, and then another Lunar Eclipse (in Pisces) on September 16th. Eclipses happen roughly every 6 months, and they reflect some of the shifts that will be occurring for that same period of time. Over the last month and continuing over next 1.5 months, the energies of these upcoming eclipses are gradually becoming more apparent, as many people are already finding themselves in a transitional period. To learn more about these upcoming eclipses, stay tuned for those articles when we get closer to those dates. (Subscribe to my mailing list here to ensure you receive my articles when they get published) Leo is the sign of creative self-expression and playfulness. It is a childlike energy associated with expressing from the heart, as well as generosity, creating, performing, and romance. In some ways, Leo is about leadership, especially if it involves courage.

The shadow qualities of this sign are excessive pride and ego, drama, demanding respect and attention, as well as dictatorial and authoritarian behaviour. A perfect example of these shadow qualities is Donald Trump, who has a Leo ascendant with a forceful Mars rising in the same sign. Saturn in Sagittarius is making a trine aspect to this New Moon as it is preparing to go forward after being retrograde since late March. Ultimately, Saturn in this sign represents a time where we need to address and potentially redefine our strong held belief systems, whether it is cultural, political, spiritual, religious, and/or dogmatic in any other way. Saturn’s trine aspect to the New Moon shows a potential for us to express love and generosity, and/or other Leo qualities as a result of how the Saturn in Sagittarius energy is playing out in our lives. In the hours leading up to the New Moon, Mars leaves Scorpio and enters Sagittarius. From April until late June, Mars has been retrograding in both of these signs and we have been experiencing adjustments of how how we assert our will, drive, and sexuality. In Scorpio, Mars was in a trine with Chiron, which was bringing up the deeper and darker aspects of ourselves in order to help us heal and potentially transform in some ways. Now that Mars is moving back into the fire sign of Sagittarius, we may feel more free and liberated and find that we have more energy to express our willpower in a more outward and expansive way. Venus in Leo is in a trine with Uranus in Aries which can reinforce the Mars in Sagittarius energy of feeling more free. This energy is about fun, excitement, and new pleasurable experiences. For many people, this will play out in romantic relationships. Mercury has just entered its own sign of Virgo, which can assist us in being mentally sharp, organized, and able to multitask.

The only challenge is that Mercury is moving toward an opposition to Neptune, which are both squaring Saturn in a T-Square pattern. Neptune can bring about confusion, delusion, deception, or even escapism, and potentially creating some challenges for us to tackle mentally. It can also represent a need to integrate our spiritual needs or any sort of selfless service. With Saturn in a square with these planets, they key is to be able to hold a solid and realistic big picture perspective of everything that is occurring. In what new ways can you shine in your creative self-expression? What are your heart’s desires? Is there any new territory or new potentially exhilarating experiences that you wish to embark on? In what areas of your life do you need to put in an expansive effort? Are you living from your heart? These are some examples of the questions you can be asking yourself when making your intentions. Remember that it is best to set your intentions within the first 24 hours after the New Moon (click here to find out exact time for your time zone). You can declare them by speaking out loud, but even better is to either write them down in words or illustrate images reflecting what it is you intend. — Receive future astrology articles by Carmen Di Luccio by clicking here to join his mailing list.
