Pluto In Capricorn 2008-2024: Major Changes In Government, Banking, and Business
In September 2008, the planet Pluto ended a retrograde period in the tail end of Sagittarius and started moving toward Capricorn, where it would stay until 2024.
At that the time, the biggest news was that, unless the government stepped in and bailed out the banks, the United States was on the verge of financial collapse. Pluto is the planet of transformation, renewal, death, and rebirth. It is a purger, destroyer, and creator. It rules hidden matters as well as the withholding or revealing of secrets. It represents power and control, as well as domination and manipulation. Capricorn is associated with worldly structures such as government, banking, and business, and Pluto in this sign is reflecting the changes that are happening in these areas. It has already travelled through Capricorn for just over half of its 16 year duration and its effects have become increasingly obvious over time and will continue to do so, especially over the next three years.
The last time Pluto was in Capricorn was from 1762-1778, which is when the United States of America was founded. At that time, colonies sought to establish themselves independently from an oppressive and troubled British monarchy, which led to the Declaration of Independence. Over the years following this, the United States eventually would become the dominant country and currency and other countries would ‘adopt’ their style of democracy, or have it forced upon them.
The Founding Fathers appeared to have good intentions when creating the United States, but over the years the government would become corrupt and work to serve the interests of the global elite, bankers, etc. However, in this latest edition of Pluto in Capricorn, it looks like the governing and financial structures of the U.S. will fall victim to Pluto just as Britain did the last time this occurred. It is also possible that the European Union and other government and international structures will be negatively affected as well. This will be the first ‘Pluto in Capricorn’ we are living through and observing since Pluto’s discovery.
The U.S. will be having its ‘Pluto return’ in 2022, the effects of which will be felt a few years prior and following. This means that Pluto in the sky returns to the same zodiacal position it was in when the United States was formed. It marks endings and beginnings regarding how the energies of that planet are being applied.
The country will be likely be dealing with issues around power and how power is used. So far throughout this Pluto in Capricorn, we’ve seen a lot of interesting developments that truly reflect Pluto’s properties. Pluto can reveal secrets and we’ve seen that with the information coming from Wikileaks and Edward Snowden.
The people’s desire for change is reflected in the last three presidential election cycles and the increasing popularity of anti-establishment presidential candidates. It started with Ron Paul in the 2008 and 2012 elections and was then followed by Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump in this most recent cycle. Trump’s presidency reflects both the positive and negative manifestations of Pluto in Capricorn. As he appears to be making some good changes, (and/or negative depending on your views) he is also power hungry, dominating, and authoritarian leader which is very ‘Pluto in Capricorn’ like. This is sort of how the British were when the U.S. was formed. We’ve also seen this strong desire for change through massive protest movements that have been occurring such as Occupy Wall Street, Standing Rock, and Black Lives Matter, with the help of Uranus in Aries in a tense angle to Pluto. When the U.S. was formed, slavery was alive and well, and the current oppressive treatment of black people by police and many others can be traced back to this time. As Pluto represents power and abuse, the upcoming ‘Pluto return’ can also potentially help to facilitate bigger steps towards racial equality and questioning abuse of power. More and more people have been becoming aware of the conspiracies behind political establishments and we’ve seen a tremendous rise in the popularity of people like Alex Jones.
The fact that he was recently interviewed by Megyn Kelly is an astonishing reflection of the change that is occurring. When I first became interested in conspiracies, shortly after 9/11, I followed Alex Jones’ work and at that time I never would have imagined him being interviewed on a mainstream prime time show. As mentioned earlier in the article, Pluto’s entry into Capricorn coincided with the threat of a financial collapse that led to the American government bailing out the banks. Following this, the U.S. and other countries experienced a recession. Over the years there has been a growing awareness of the corruption behind the federal reserve, international bankers, and their power over the population through the control of currency, banks, inflation, and interest rates. Money is no longer backed by precious metals, and is instead created out of debt, or what is known as ‘fiat currency.’ Many more people are now aware of this.
The value of money is based on the perception of how well the country is doing economically, the people’s faith in it, supply and demand, and any manipulation done by the central banks and the global elite. In late 2008, a new type of currency was proposed to help protect people from economic uncertainties. Early 2009 saw the birth of Bitcoin which is a ‘cryptocurrency’ using a new technology called ‘blockchain’. Cryptocurrency is a digital asset that is structured in a way that its value cannot be affected by inflation and the dilution of fiat currency. It’s blockchain technology is a revolutionary type of ledger that can be used in other ways as well. Over the years since then, there have been many other cryptocurrencies that have been released, but Bitcoin is currently still the primary one. Bitcoin was first given a value in late 2009 at $1 USD being worth 1309 Bitcoins, which is equivalent to 0.00076 of $1. A year later, its value went up to $0.50 and has been increasing since. Currently, as of early July 2017, one bitcoin is worth over $2,500 US. While it has seen dips in value over the years, its long term trajectory has remained upward.
The growing value of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can be attributed to many different factors, with one of the main reasons being that people view it as a good investment. However, from an astrological perspective, this is a subconscious manifestation of the ‘Pluto in Capricorn’ story. In the event of an economic collapse, Bitcoin and/or other cyptocurrencies could potentially be worth much more than they are now. In the long term, it is very likely that cryptocurrency and blockchain technology will become a big part of the future of commerce. Perhaps Bitcoin or another type of cryptocurrency will eventually become the standard and primary method of exchange. Alternatively, blockchain technology might inspire something else that could unfold over the coming years. More recently, a newer and more versatile cryptocurrency called ‘Ethereum’ has become popular and jumped in value this year. Prior to being in Capricorn, Pluto was in Sagittarius, from 1995 until 2008. Sagittarius rules media and marketing, and right around the time Pluto entered this sign, the internet started to become publicly available and commercialized. Although the internet and its precursors existed prior to this period, it was mostly unknown to the general public and was used more privately by military and universities. As Pluto progressed through Sagittarius, we witnessed the birth of social media and eventually smartphones. Pluto’s transformation of media has had a direct effect on its current transformation in the changes in government, commerce, and the business world. Without relying on controlled media, we have become more aware of what is actually going on and it has also opened up marketplaces and new models for different types of businesses to thrive in. E-commerce as well as the use and sale of digital products has grown enormously during its passage in Capricorn. Many major brick and mortar retail stores have either closed or downsized as a result and this trend will continue on some level, but not completely. This change has also created new opportunities for niche businesses and people wanting to create businesses and careers out of their passions. Since 2008, we have seen a much greater resistance to the oil industry and fossil fuels, for a few reasons. First and foremost, many people believe in the supposed connection between carbon and climate change, but our increasing awareness of frequent oil spills is also playing a big part. Since Pluto’s entry into Capricorn, the number of incidents involving oil has been substantial.
The nuclear incident in Fukushima has also been pushing more people toward demanding sustainable and clean energy. We still have a long way to go, but we have been taking bigger steps than ever, thanks to help of the internet and Pluto.
The invention of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, as previously addressed in the article, will also contribute to the changes in the business world.
The blockchain, which is the digital infrastructure of cryptocurrency, has many other purposes and uses which will likely be adopted in the coming years. As mentioned above, Pluto ends its journey in Capricorn in 2024.
The changes, steps made, and seeds planted will continue to develop even beyond this period. Saturn also enters Capricorn in December 2017 until December 2020. During this time, part of Pluto’s influence in this sign will be amplified. Saturn creates restrictions and challenges, and can be contractive. It puts things to the test and it can create challenging circumstances to facilitate necessary changes. Both Saturn and Pluto will be making challenging aspects to the astrological blueprints of the United States and the Federal Reserve. Also, there will be a powerful Solar Eclipse coming late August (2017) that will reflect major changes happening in the US through the second half of the year and beyond. It would be wise to consider and observe the changes that are occurring so that you can make decisions that are aligned with what Pluto is creating rather than what it is purging.
