Solstice ‘Ring Of Fire’ Solar Eclipse: Going Into New Territory

We are having a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer which happens on June 21st and the night of the 20th in the Americas.

Solstice ‘Ring Of Fire’ Solar Eclipse: Going Into New Territory
This is an annular eclipse, which is when the Moon almost completely blocks out the Sun, except for its outer edges. It appears like this because the Moon is near its apogee, which is its furthest distance from the Earth. This type of eclipse is also referred to as a ‘Ring of Fire’ due to it appearing this way. However, from most of the listed locations you can only see it as a partial eclipse unless you are on its path. --50% OFF Sale: It's our 11 year anniversary and we're giving away yearly memberships to CETV at 50% off! A Solar Eclipse is a much more significant type of New Moon which influences a longer term period then a regular one. This is when it occurs near the Lunar Nodes, which is where the path of the Sun and Moon intersect from our perspective on Earth. This happens every six months, along with Full Moon Lunar Eclipses happening right before and/or after. Two weeks prior to this we had a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, and we will have another Lunar Eclipse (in Capricorn) two weeks following. Eclipses reflect changes and shifts which affect the six months following and could also influence up to six weeks prior. You may or may not see the effects of it around the time it occurs, but you may feel it and then see it actually play out in the weeks or months afterwards. However, eclipses are in the same opposing signs for 1.5-2 years which is where the Lunar Nodes are for most of that period. Some of the themes that are playing out could last that long. We have been experiencing eclipses in Cancer since summer 2018 and this will be the final one of this series as we are transitioning into Gemini-Sagittarius eclipses which is where the nodes recently entered.

The positions of the Eclipses and the Lunar Nodes reflect an evolutionary process in how we work with the energies of these signs. What results from a series of eclipses in the same signs over these two year periods have longer-term effects beyond the window in which they occur in. .

The peak of this eclipse occurs nine hours after the initiation of Cancer month which is the Summer Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the South, initiating the new season. This is when the Sun is directly overhead the ‘Tropic of Cancer’ which is the most Northern Latitude it is able to align with. This is a highly significant point in the zodiac and within the Sun-Earth relationship in which the Tropical Zodiac is based on. Different cultures and groups have acknowledged Solstices as a spiritually and naturally important time of the year.

They have honored and celebrated it throughout history as well as in modern times.

The Solstice energy gets configured to this Solar Eclipse making it extra significant.

The first degree (beginning) of a sign and especially season, is associated with going into new territory. Also, considering it is the longest day of the year in the North, in which the amount of daily Sunlight peaks, it can also reflect some sort of climax as well.

The last time we had an Eclipse like this was on June 21st, 2001, months before 9/11. Some of the shifts reflected in this Eclipse and previous ones in the last few years are connected to Cancerian energy. It is just over 1 degree away from the North Node which is on the other side of the cusp with Gemini. This indicates changes and developments that have an increasing effect on how Cancerian energies are expressed. As a water sign, Cancer is emotional, intuitive, and feeling based. It is about security, nurturing, sensitivity, bonding, family, domestic life, comforts, patriotism, and nostalgia. It is instinctual and protective yet can also be vulnerable, insecure, smothering, overly subjective, clingy, hypersensitive, overprotective, and attached to the past. Mercury is also retrograde in Cancer which emphasizes the shifts around Cancerian themes now and over the coming months. You can read more about that here. This Eclipse is in a quincunx aspect with Saturn in Aquarius which can make it complicated to integrate these Saturnian and Cancerian energies. This can reflect hindrances that require adjustments. Saturn here can represent limitations, restrictions, boundaries, or obstacles that are challenging to incorporate and need extra effort to adapt to.. This Eclipse is also in a square with Chiron and sextile with Uranus. Chiron here can reflect a time in which personal or collective wounds come up and pain can get triggered. With it being in Aries, it could be connected to identity, individuality, or individualism, yet can play out in other ways as well. We may need to address aspects of ourselves, or the whole, that have been fragmented.

The key here is to facilitate healing by addressing things in a whole-istic way and applying unique solutions that may involve bringing together different factors or components of something.

The sextile with Uranus can be supportive in a way that is innovative, inspiring, original, revolutionary, rebellious, and desiring of change. This energy with Chiron and Uranus will come up strongly from June 29th to July 2nd when the Sun and Mercury are making exact aspects to them. This will be a significant part of the current Mercury Retrograde process as it will be during its ‘inferior conjunction’. Jupiter is also in an exact conjunction with Pluto which is strong from June 19th until July 10th. This is the 2nd of a series of three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions happening this year.

The first one began in the second half of March when it was strong until mid April and the 3rd (final) conjunction will be in November. However, this conjunction is still an important part of the backdrop throughout most of 2020. This can bring hidden matters to light and it can be a time of acquiring deeper understandings and perspectives. Issues pertaining to abuse, control, or power dynamics can surface. This combined with Mercury’s ‘inferior conjunction’ from June 30th to July 1st can also have a transformational theme for certain people. Mars is in a sextile with this conjunction during this eclipse and days prior. This is good for assertiveness or action that corresponds with this energy or in some sort of persuasive, overhauling, or significant way. On June 25th Venus ends its retrograde and goes stationary direct, and slowly begins to move forward over the following days. Now, and over the coming weeks, certain Venus related issues will progress in a revamped way. It could have to do with Venus areas of relationships, love, values, social dynamics, finances, creative/artistic interests, or things that are aesthetic related.

There will either be more clarity, a different perspective, or a change in gears around what has come up in recent months pertaining to Venus. This is especially so from when Mercury ends its retrograde in mid-July until they both end their post-retrograde shadows in late July. As Venus starts to go direct, Mars is also in a square with the Lunar Nodes from June 25th-27th. This is reflective of the energy of the previous Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius and it can trigger some of those themes.

The square occurs while Mars is at the last degree of Pisces which is also the end of the entire zodiac before beginning anew in Aries, Mars’ home sign. This can be a period in which we may feel like we are at a crossroads between the past and the future. This in combination with Venus’ change in motion can feel like a transition. Perhaps the need to leave something behind, tie up loose ends, or move on from something hindering us may come up now to help us proceed with where we truly want to go. Keep in mind that Solar Eclipses are different from regular New Moons and they are not necessarily a time to be making intentions. It is best to just try to tune into it, such as in meditation, and/or pay attention to your feelings. Perhaps whatever is coming up for at that time can help you navigate the upcoming months to serve you in your personal evolution.

The themes of the Eclipse will be connected to Cancerian energies, however, it also depends on how it is interacting with your personal astrology chart based on the day and time of your birth. Here are some suggestions of things that you can be considering at this time and over the following six months. How can you adapt to obstacles you are being faced with? In what areas of life should you be taking new and unique approaches? Are there any deep wounds being triggered for you? What can be done to help heal and/or change a situation in a positive way? What are your relationships with others trying to show you? Are there developments in your life pushing you to be more caring or nurturing? What has been coming up in your home/domestic/family life and what changes can you make to improve a situation? These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period and over the coming months; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well. The Eclipse will peak at its maximum at 6:40am Universal Time and the exact moment of the New Moon will be just over a minute later.

The eclipse process will begin and finish almost 2 hours before and after.
