15 Cartoons Showing The Difference Between Dating & Real Love

The collection was put together by the wonderful people at Brightside.

These cartoons do not mean to insult anyone or make anybody feel like they are not giving real love.

They are also useful in providing insight into how much empathy we have, and how much we ourselves may be lacking in our own lives. We live in a time where the world of dating and relationships has never been so convoluted. Gone are the days where someone had to muster up the courage to approach someone that caught their eye, and here (seemingly to stay) are the days of swiping right to twenty potential partners in a matter of minutes. While the ease of connectivity is cool, the major downside (to some) seems to be a shift from a focus on building a genuine relationship to locating a quick f*** buddy. It’s an interesting reality to be a part of to say the least, and it’s hard to believe the new style of dating isn’t a major contributor to marriage rates hitting an all-time low in the United States. As a hopeless romantic at heart, I was happy to come across a series of cartoons that play on the seemingly shrinking perspective on love.

The collection was put together by the wonderful people at Brightside outlining the difference between real love and passion. Here are the 15 images with my takeaways from them: Image Source: Brightside It’s always easy to appreciate another’s beauty when a lot of time and effort is put into every aspect of their appearance. It’s another thing to see and appreciate it when they are instead in their more natural state. We are all always beautiful and true love tends to emphasize that. Image Source: Brightside Conflict is a natural part of every relationship. It is our reaction to it that tends to differentiate the fickle from the committed. Image Source: Brightside Just like online dating, the world of social media has added an entirely new dynamic to relationships. As much as online displays of affection can be wonderful, taking the time to also do them in a more personal and intimate setting tends to be that much more powerful and heartfelt. Image Source: Brightside Intimacy is a fun part of every relationship, but how it differs in genuine love is that it isn’t always the main motive operating behind every interaction. Image Source: Brightside We’ve all experienced dates like this at some point in our lives. We find ourselves sitting across the table from a prospective partner and can’t help but make our mind drift as they talk about something we cannot connect to. All relationships will always have their differences but the ones backed by love will always be two-way conversations filled with care. Image Source: Brightside Decision making is a two person game that works best if both parties come together in making the choice, rather than only one simply pushing their desires. Image Source: Brightside We all have long and tiring days away from one another. True love tends to recognize that and find ways to help alleviate that hardship rather than add to it unnecessarily. Image Source: Brightside A willingness to provide care in a time of need is always a wonderful sign suggesting that love is truly in the mix. A lack of it can suggest that the person is either too preoccupied with their own well-being or they only have one thing in mind when they do spend time with you. Image Source: Brightside The language we choose when communicating with a significant other can go a long way in how the relationship unfolds. Love tends to recognize the best way to approach things. Image Source: Brightside Life is always going to challenge relationships with distance and time apart. How we choose to respond to that will often be a good indicator of how serious the relationship is. Image Source: Brightside Not being able to keep your hands off one another is always a fun part of every new relationship, but you know it’s love when you are able to pick your spots and know that it will be worth your while (and more comfortable for others) when that time comes. Image Source: Brightside Even if your partner’s love language is the receiving of gifts, it should never be done to prove your feelings for someone. Gift giving is a wonderful thing, especially when it comes about naturally and has a lot of thought behind it. Image Source: Brightside Again, intimacy is an awesome part of every relationship, but it should never be the only part. Connect with a partner who loves non-intimate time with you just as much and there will still be plenty of time where the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign still gets used. Image Source: Brightside A great indicator of love is when you naturally find yourself excited to share something with your partner.

Their reaction at times can even become more interesting to you than your own. Image Source: Brightside With the nature of dating these days it’s hard not to easily wander into thoughts about there simply being someone else if this doesn’t work out. True love doesn’t even consider it. This is how each of the 15 cartoons spoke to me, how do they speak to you? Ready to change your life today?
