3 Inexpensive Things That Have Changed My Life For The Better

From retreats to workshops to masterclasses there are plenty of expensive ways for us to potentially change our lives for the better.

3 Inexpensive Things That Have Changed My Life For The Better
What are some the best largely inexpensive purchases you've made that have had a profound positive impact on you mentally, physically, spiritually or emotionally? I’ve always considered myself to be rather proactive about my health and well-being. While I don’t always make the healthiest day-to-day dietary decisions–damn candy–I’m typically rarely hesitant to try something new that for one reason or another I believe has the potential to improve my life. Of course, I always do my research first, and totally suggest that you too do the same, but of all the things my mind loves to overthink in this world, these types of purchases are typically not one of them–especially when their cost is rather insignificant. And thankfully, in most cases, I’ve stumbled upon something genuinely helpful, including these 3 things. As someone who has done the vast majority of my work on a laptop since 2010, I started becoming concerned about the impact that its angle had on me. So, I did some digging and found that elevating the laptop screen to be at your eye level and connecting or attaching an external mouse and keyboard so that they can remain at desk level could prove helpful. And it’s been a game-changer for me, especially when it comes to neck pain. I bought this one in 2018 on Amazon for $29.99 CAD. This purchase, which started as an experiment, lead to me making a now very popular vlog about it, and is now something I wear pretty well every minute that I’m staring at a screen while at home and at work (which currently happen to be the same place for me, but even before that, when they weren’t, I still wore them that often). My blue light blocking glasses cost me only $24.90 CAD on Amazon and have positively impacted my life in so many ways, from eliminating blood shot eyes, to reducing headaches, to helping me sleep. Item #3 is the best thing to ever happen to my back, and that’s a bold statement considering that I’ve gone to several chiropractors over the course of my life... it’s a foam roller. I first was introduced to one of these things while working full-time at Collective Evolution when we had one in the office, but its helpful role in my life has only grown over the years. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I typically use this thing 3-4 times per day. Primarily to roll out my back, but also my legs and butt.

The exact blue one I have I can’t still find on Amazon, but there is an orange equivalent still selling for the same price I had paid, $25.99 CAD. While those are my top 3, I do want to give a quick shoutout to two honourable mentions: The first is my Passion Planner. This is my 6th year using a Passion Planner and I still love them as much as I did in year one. I’ll admit I don’t use all of the reflection and goal setting features, but for day-to-day organization and creativity it’s my go-to.

The cost to me up here in Canada is a bit higher, usually around $70 after shipping, but it does sell on Amazon for you Americans for only $30. And my second honourable mention is the book Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins. This 500+ page book is not for casual reading. In fact, I’d only suggest it if you’re willing to put the work in and actually apply the principles and complete the bevy of activities it’s loaded with. I will warn you that, having been written in 1992, some of the references and examples are quite comical to read today, but putting those aside, this book changed my life more than any other, and best of all I bought it used on Amazon for only $0.01... plus $3.49 shipping. I don’t still see it at that price, but as of the day I’m writing this I do see some used options in and around $2-5.
