Cast Of Avengers Show Their Support For Water Protectors At Standing Rock

Four very recognizable stars from the film The Avengers have teamed up to show their solidarity with the Standing Rock water protectors. Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth used their celebrity to urge fans to sign a petition calling for an end to the controversial North Dakota pipeline construction on the Standing Rock Native Reservation.

They are also demanding President Barack Obama to pay attention to abuses and excessive force being used against the protesters that are simply protecting their land and water.

The camps started back in April this year and protests began in August. North Dakota is the last leg of the pipeline that is to carry oil through 4 states: Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota. Currently, 114,000 km of pipe has already been laid and completing the North Dakota line would add the last 2000 km. All four of The Avengers stars have taken to social media in the past month to encourage others to share their support of the opposition to the pipeline. Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) posted a video acknowledging this support, stating, “I’m Samuel L. Jackson, and I acknowledge the First Peoples of America. I stand for their right to clean water, and today, I stand with Standing Rock.” I'm saying #nodapl and @barackobama should too! Sign the petition and standwithstandingrock.net #standwithstandingrock A post shared by Samuel L Jackson (@samuelljackson) on Nov 4, 2016 at 4:40pm PDT On Friday, Chris Evans (Captain America), tweeted “Tell @POTUS to say #NoDAPL by signing the http://standwithstandingrock.net petition!!” They all shared the link across their Instagram accounts. Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) was actually at Standing Rock last week and has been very vocal in his support of the water protectors to the media. He posted a video to Instagram on Saturday, pledging support for protests led by the Sioux tribes who say the oil pipeline construction will damage their drinking water and sacred land areas. If you check out some of his other Instagram posts, you’ll notice the passion behind his show of solidarity as he implores everyone to join in this movement that is bigger than all of us. “I acknowledge the first peoples of America. Today I stand with Standing Rock,” said Ruffalo. Take a stand for our brothers and sisters in #StandingRock! Join me in telling @barackobama to just say #NoDAPL. Period. Sign the petition and #StandWithStandingRock at the link in my bio. A post shared by Mark Ruffalo (@markruffalo) on Nov 4, 2016 at 3:51pm PDT Chris Hemsworth (Thor) shared a photo of two young ladies at Standing Rock with the hashtags “#NODAPL” and “#StandWithStandingRock” and a link to the petition “I stand with the Standing Rock,” he captioned the picture. “Join me and tell @barackobama to say #NoDAPL by signing the petition.” I stand with the Standing Rock. Join me and tell @barackobama to say #NoDAPL by signing the petition. Click the link in my bio. A post shared by Chris Hemsworth (@chrishemsworth) on Nov 4, 2016 at 7:10pm PDT There have been a few celebrities coming forward and voicing their concern about the pipeline. Most notable is Shailene Woodley, who was arrested for protesting at the pipeline last month. I have a feeling more celebrities will stand up for Standing Rock. So far, Leo DiCaprio, Dave Matthews, Rosario Dawson, Pharrell Williams, and a host of others are seeing this pipeline as a symbol of a system that is broken. A system that puts pipelines before people.
