Ever Heard of Benzene Poisoning? This Is The Cost of Human Electronics

We’ve become consumed by our electronics, constantly carrying them, using them and checking them on a minute to minute basis. Rarely do we ever stop to think about where these products come from, the energy behind their production and the costs associated with manufacturing them. At the end of the day it all boils down to us. We want them, we desire them and we feel that they are necessary. Are these our own wants and desires, or have they been programmed into us? Smart phones are a great example of devices we don’t need, we’ve just been made to believe we need them, we’ve been programmed to believe they are a necessity. I personally have a very old phone, and I put minutes on it for emergencies and small calls needed here and there. I hardly ever have it on me, and in doing so I constantly notice how many people are always clinging to and looking at their electronics. Below is a short documentary revealing the hazards of the electronics industry in China. It follows workers that are poisoned by chemicals and the struggles they have to go through to receive compensation. There are thousands upon thousands of young people that work in these factory’s to make your favourite gadgets. It’s not uncommon for these workers to contract occupational diseases, or cancer by their mid twenties. This type of thing happens all over the world, and it’s not just our electronics. Corporations like Apple have more than enough money to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

They could easily afford to raise wages, but they continue to engage in extremely unethical behaviour. Suicides in these places is also common, suicide nets have even been placed around factory sites to stop over-worked and stressed employees from leaping to their deaths.
