Healing Through The Power Of The Heart – An Encounter With Medicine Horses

“One day I met a horse. And it changed my life.” The words of a dear friend of mine are still on my mind when I think about my first encounter with a special kind of horse and healer.

Healing Through The Power Of The Heart – An Encounter With Medicine Horses

. In her case it was a gorgeous white horse she had photographed.

The one I met was a beautiful brown one with a white patch along her forehead. her name was Trinity Red Star. I didn’t take a picture, but purely her presence changed me, opened me up to a space that I haven’t known before. Trinity Red Star is part of a herd of the Medicine Horses of the Thirteen Moon Farm on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Before I tell you more about it, let me ask you this: Do you believe in the healing power of the heart? I truly do, I have experienced it. And I bet you have on some level, too. Our human hearts exchange energies that are powerful beyond our current understanding. According to studies conducted by the Heartmath Institute in California, the heart generates the largest electromagnetic field in the body.

The researchers found that the heart has an electromagnetic field that is about 60 times greater in amplitude than recorded brain waves and has a higher level of intelligence than the brain. A magnetometer can measure the heart’s energy field radiating up to 8 to 10 feet around the human body as well as between two individuals in close proximity. So now imagine the power of our human hearts and multiply it with five. That’s the energy which the size of a horse’s heart radiates according to further studies.

The Heartmath Institute describes it as a sphere-shaped field that completely surrounds you and can actually directly influence our own heart rhythm! Related CE Article: What Science Is Telling Us About The Heart’s Intuitive Intelligence My heart rhythm is a bit out of balance when we arrive at the farm. I love horses and yet fear them at the same time. I was thrown off of one when I was 9 years old and only got on the back of one again a few weeks before this healing session. In short, I definitely have a lot of respect of the correspondence between human emotions and the reaction of these animals. This time, it’s all a bit different. We are a group of around 25 people, sitting in a circle inside a riding arena. While we’re wrapped in blankets, zipping hot tea and introducing ourselves, the horses are already doing their work in the stables right next to the arena and still out of sight for us. Noises and sounds travel through the wooden walls, some of us can feel the shifts in energy already. Our facilitator Tina – one of the few gifted people who work with these kind of beings – explains that the Medicine Horses are even more sensible and powerful than normal ones as they have a genetic mutation which is referred to as the Pocahontas Effect, The Large Heart Gene or The X-Factor. (The Thoroughbred Race Horse Industry) Studies have found that horses have a coherent heart pattern (HRV) which is indicative of a system that can adjust to and recover stressful emotional situations and transform them to states of calm and joy. According to the studies, these balanced emotional states then also show up as physiological benefits while interacting with horses. A lowered blood pressure and heart rate, increased levels of beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters that serve as pain suppressors) or decreased stress levels are just some examples. Due to their genetic mutation, Medicine Horses are born with an unusually large heart. Combined with the HRV, it enables them to move enormous volumes of energy with more ease than a normal horse.

The Medicine Horses hold such a high and strong vibration that they can work with a large group like us without getting out of balance. Before we can get close to them, however, they have to balance out and up level the group ́s energy from a distance. Only then we can go to the stables and get close to them. That’s when the next phase of the healing begins. At this point, I haven’t seen the horses, yet, and I have already forgotten about my fear. It seems as if excitement has taken its place. As the Thirteen Moon Farm states on their website: “All horses are teachers. Some horses are healers. Fewer horses are both healer and teacher. Medicine Horses go beyond the role of healer teacher.” It’s even more fascinating that the Medicine Horses will appear like a normal horse, however, develop a lameness or act out, if they are not given a room to life their lives as healers.

The illness is often misunderstood by common science or doctors and only reversible by letting the horses do their work. (Which reminds me of humans related to living a purposeful life.) And their work is remarkable. Even if you don’t believe in energy healing, the positive results of patients with physical or mental diseases after healing sessions with the Medicine Horses are pretty convincing. Having worked for over several decades of her career, Tina has seen quite a few miraculous healings. As she says on her website: “Being in the energy field of the horse kick starts an energetic spiritual awakening. Those who are described as fragile must be supported by those who are aware of this process and who can assist the journey through the completion of the process.” After around 40 minutes the horses have finished the first part of our healing process – Tina can identify this due to certain sounds the horses make – and we are finally allowed to meet them. My excitement has reached quite a peak at this point and the only thing I ́m afraid of is pushing the sensitive animals away with my over excitement to see them. When we enter the stables, I see a few beautiful horses lined up and immediately feel drawn to a big brown one with the name Trinity Red Star. Some other participants gather in front of the horse with me and the one-on one session starts. I feel the horse nibbling on my wrist, then its nose touches the area of my heart followed by the area around my forehead. Tina explains that the horse is working on my mind-heart connection. I just nod. Of course that ́s the first thing the horse picks up on. Getting more into my heart and balancing out the mind and heart have been my biggest themes of the year.

The horse must be a genius. Trinity Red Star continues with other gestures, going up and down in front of our bodies, touches certain areas and fletches its teeth in between. For an outside observer it looks like a funny dance, yet, the horse is doing profound energy work in the little group as well as on the individuals. Tina and her team are doing the best to translate the horses ́language and explain what’s going on. I’m impressed which emotional and physical issues the horse detects. It’s spot on every time. In contrast to ordinary approaches that are led by the control over the horse, the approach of the Thirteen Moons Fram is focused on the work with the animal and its given role. “When the client reaches a point where he realizes fully that the horse is a sentient emotional spiritual being who has given his life to healing other species a break down occurs,” says Tina. Witnessing this over and over again, she has become an advocate of this new way of working with the horses and this is what led her to create the International Academy of Medicine Horses. The horses have turned away from our little groups and the session is complete for now.

The effect of the energy work, however, can be felt for several days, weeks or even months. There’s more tea and some delicious homemade cookies from Tina ́s husband waiting in the riding arena as well as a debriefing for the group. Some people talk about physical reactions like tingling or pain moving through their bodies, some felt a change in their energy or emotions welling up. I just feel happy and uplifted and still fascinated by the encounter with these wonderful animals. The bigger noticeable effects on me only kick in the following days. I ́m overcome by huge waves of anger, sadness and complete frustration to the point that I don’t recognize myself anymore. Also my body reacts with a tumultuous tummy and extreme tiredness. It feels like a purging. I literally can feel that some emotional layers are peeled. After a few days, my strength comes back and I feel refreshed and renewed.

There’s a feeling of peace settling in and another one that is hard to explain. I feel connected to myself again, as if I just got plugged right back into source. It’s a little bit like magic. Horse magic. It’s been a ride. Quite a different one to what I expected and one that really shifted something within me. And for you beloved sceptics: there ́s science behind this and even more evidence in the results that are shown. I for my part know through my experience that these horses are powerful healers and a bit “out of this world”. So anyone who I got just slightly interested in it: give it a try! It’s so worth it and truly an experience of the healing powers of the heart.
