Improve Your Digestion & Repair Your Gut Using A Simple, 1-Ingredient Juice

I love starting my mornings with an organic juice, but it’s no secret that juicing is not only expensive but time consuming.

Improve Your Digestion & Repair Your Gut Using A Simple, 1-Ingredient Juice

Who really wants to spend an hour prepping, chopping and juicing $10 worth of produce that only ends up becoming an extremely small amount of juice anyways? Not very many people. However, not all juices are expensive to make, nor do they all take a long time. More water-based fruits and vegetables take far less time to juice because they yield more liquid, and they can still offer tons of nutritional value. For example, one of the best ways to start off your day is to drink 16 oz of celery juice, and you may be surprised by the wide range of health benefits this healing beverage has to offer you! I first heard about the benefits of celery juice from the Medical Medium, Anthony William, who refers to celery as, “one of the most powerful and healing juices one can drink.” So, what’s in celery? Here’s an image of the nutritional facts of celery taken from Google: Keep in mind that one 16 oz juice would contain far more than only 100 grams of celery. Celery is also extremely alkaline; in fact, it’s one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat. Alkaline foods help to rid the body of toxins, cleanse the liver and bloodstream, and helps to balance your pH. Our pH is measured on a scale ranging from 0-14 with 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most alkaline. In order to transport oxygen throughout the body, our blood needs to maintain a pH level of approximately 7.35. Even though our bodies store excess alkaline reserves to buffer acids, if you’re eating a conventional diet filled with pesticides and processed foods, your reserve has likely depleted. That’s why it’s important to eat more alkalizing foods! Alkaline diets have a wide variety of health benefits and can actually help to defend the body against cancer, which you can read about here: Can An Alkaline Diet Successfully Treat Cancer? Signs Your Body Is Too Acidic What To Do About It There are a wide range of health claims that have been made in regard to celery juice. Because of its high anti-inflammation properties, Medical Medium states it’s “highly beneficial for those who suffer from autoimmune conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Migraines, Vertigo, IBS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne, Lupus, Guillain-Barre, Sarcoidosis, Raynaud’s, Meniere’s, GERD, Bursitis, Restless Leg Syndrome, and Gout.” Dr. Gregory S. Kelly noted that the following health problems can occur as a result of low hydrochloric acid in the stomach (HCL) in this scientific research paper. Other issues associated with low HCL can be more short-term issues like burning, burping, upset stomach, diarrhea, and flatulence, whereas more long-term issues reported include difficulty digesting food and properly breaking down proteins.

The good news is that celery juice can be used to mitigate these issues because it can restore your stomach’s HCL. Celery juice in the mornings, prior to consuming anything else, has been reported to restore digestive and gut health. A Mind Body Green writer recently published an article depicting her own experiences during/after drinking celery juice every morning for an entire month. A few of the benefits she reported experiencing included mental clarity, improved digestion, a slimmer waistline, and decreased stress. It’s best to use a juicer, although a high-speed blender like a Vitamix will also do the trick. If you’re using a blender, try blending your head of celery with a bit of filtered water and then use a nut milk bag or cheese cloth to strain the juice and remove the pulp.

The ideal quantity to consume in the morning is 16 oz, so you may need to juice a full head of celery to yield those results. It’s important to note that your celery should be purchased organic when possible. If you’re ingesting conventionally grown celery, you’re also exposing yourself to the pesticides sprayed all over the crop. Happy juicing! .
