Judge Admits Jailing People For Cannabis “Haunts” Him After It Saved His Life (Video)

Cannabis is one of those confusing topics that makes you wonder, why is it illegal? How can we have a plant that has, without a doubt, provided healing to so many people with so many different ailments–from cancer, to depression, to epilepsy and more–yet it’s still outlawed? The success stories are endless, and the medicinal properties of this plant, if used and administered in a proper way, can have a tremendously positive effect on our health industry and could eventually replace many of our prescription drugs, which some experts estimate kill more than one hundred thousand people every single year in the United States alone. As The Free Thought Project points out, Prior to this year, the state of Florida was regarded as one of the worst possible states to be caught in possession of cannabis. According to a 2009 analysis by former NORML Director Jon Gettman, no state in this country punished people more severely for minor marijuana offenses than Florida. However, thanks in part to a former Florida judge, all this is gradually changing His name is Doug Bench, an ex-Judge who used to put away those with minor marijuana offences. In the video below, he admits to throwing hundreds of people in jail for using this plant. At the time, he thought it was the right thing to do. It’s a great example of a change in perspective, and in his case, a major paradigm shift. Something he once believed to be true was no longer true because of his own experience in dealing with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: When Bench was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, which can result in a slow and painful death, his life was saved after realizing the benefits of cannabis in treating his disease. Now, Bench has made it his life’s work to wake people up to the “70 years of lies” the US government has told the citizens about marijuana We’ve written multiple articles on this topic. I will link some of them below but you can also browse through our site if you’re interested in finding more. Basically, we believe it makes absolutely no sense for cannabis to be illegal, especially when you have substances like alcohol and tobacco that are legal even though they actually kill people and also cause impairments. But the main reason cannabis shouldn’t be illegal is because of its medicinal uses. It would be great if we saw more clinics with authentic marijuana in the hands of real doctors who knew what they were doing. Imagine if the chemical medicinal industry put the same amount of resources into natural medicine as they do into pharmaceuticals? The results would be profound. With the legalization of cannabis underway, it’s important to mention that smoking marijuana still might not be completely safe, especially for young children whose brains are still developing. We have to be wary of the casual belief of some advocates that “it’s ok for everybody.” That being said, opponents likes to push the idea that it’s extremely detrimental to one’s health. Any time we see an issue as a battle between a ‘pro’ side and a ‘con’ side, emotions run high and we have trouble rising above it: The challenge with this topic is that we tend to get very emotional and rigid about it. Not only that, but we aggressively try to lump people into FOR or AGAINST cannabis. I’m not here to do that. I’m simply creating a reflection point as my desire is to help shift consciousness and empower us within to create a world where we can truly thrive. So for a moment, set aside your own hard coded beliefs and just be open to what this article is shining light on. – Joe Martino, Founder of Collective Evolution, taken from this article he wrote.
There are concerns that need to be addressed, but it’s undeniable that partaking in marijuana should not be a criminal activity, especially for those who wish to use it for medicinal purposes. This is what happens when corporations completely control the world. Anything that is a threat to the corporatocracy is instantly attacked, while new revolutionary developments that are actually discovered and proven to be successful seem to take 50 years or more to come out.
The cannabis industry is worth over $40 billion, making it the second-most-valuable crop in the U.S. after corn. As stated in a powerful article by GQ, “And even though weed is still federally forbidden, it sounded like whoever was behind BioTech Institute had spent the past several years surreptitiously maneuvering to grab every marijuana farmer, vendor, and scientist in the country by the balls, so that once the drug became legal, all they’d have to do to collect payment is squeeze.” Humans should be able to make choices as to what they want to do to themselves and their bodies, whether they choose to smoke cannabis or consume alcohol. But I believe we need to become more educated on the health impacts of both, and ultimately we must start looking at the real reasons why we use both of these substances so often. Are we using it as another vice? To feel better? To cover up emotional trauma? To “escape” reality and run away from our problems? As you can see, this can be a big discussion, and we each have our own opinion. But one thing seems clear–to take away someone’s freedom and lock them in a cage for ingesting or distributing cannabis is wrong. Likewise, denying someone access to a healing plant that can possibly provide them with relief from their illness, and in some cases a cure, doesn’t make sense, and doesn’t seem to resonate with anybody anymore.
