One of the most significant of these was the 1886 Haymarket Riot in Chicago, which led to the deaths of several workers and police officers. Over time, the labor movement gained momentum, and workers began to make gains. In 1914, Congress designated the first Monday in September as Labor Day, a national holiday dedicated to honoring the achievements of American workers. We can do this by advocating for policies that promote fair wages, safe working conditions, and access to healthcare. We can also show our appreciation for essential workers by thanking them for their service and supporting them in any way we can. Labor Day is an essential holiday that reminds us of the significant contributions that American workers have made to our society and the ongoing struggle for worker’s rights.
