New Moon In Taurus: Shaking Things Up

This is initiating a 29.5-day Lunar cycle and a new wave of energy for the coming month, however, its themes will be strongest over the following 2 weeks. This cycle will peak at the Full Moon in Scorpio on May 7th. Taurus season began on April 19th/20th, however, this New Moon helps to kickstart it even more so. Ruled by Venus, this sign is associated with values, sensuality, beauty, worth, money, possessions, and pleasures of life. As an Earth sign, it is practical, realistic, and very much invested in the physical world. Being a ‘Fixed’ Earth sign, it is like a rock; slow, steady, grounded, and thorough. Taurus is also associated with nature and it is very fitting and reflective for Earth Day to occur during its season. It is the second sign of the zodiac and therefore is more self-oriented as is all the earlier signs. Negatively, Taurus can be too rigid, lazy, habitual, overly self-indulgent, greedy, possessive, stubborn, materialistic, and very slow. This New Moon is applying a conjunction to Uranus while separating from a square with Saturn in Aquarius. This configuration will strongly reflect the energies and themes of this Lunar cycle, more so than some of the Taurus qualities mentioned above.

The New Moon’s square with Saturn reflects a time of restrictions, boundaries, seriousness, caution, obstacles, negativity, and consolidation. This can especially apply in Aquarius areas such as friends, groups, collectives, and social media, yet can play out in other ways as well. We may also be faced with a need to get disciplined, orderly, or realistic. However, Uranus is also in the mix, more strongly, as the Sun and Moon are moving towards it. This can be a period of shake ups, restlessness, sudden changes, separations, awakening, or rebellion. This can also be a time for us to tap into more of our authenticity, take new approaches, or liberate ourselves from inhibiting habits or routines. Developments pertaining to technology, metaphysics, or science can also play out. This Uranus influence will be more apparent from April 25th-26th. This configuration of these planets with the New Moon this month can give us a taste of what’s to come in 2021 when Saturn and Uranus will be making exact squares with each other. This can play out as limitations, traditions, denial, or the status quo in conflict with freedom, originality, progressiveness, and rebellion. Constructively, it can reflect innovation or implementation of new technological structures. Venus, the ruler of Taurus, is currently slowing down before going retrograde on May 13th in Gemini. It has already been in its post-retrograde shadow period since April 9th/10th. Some of the things that are occurring during this current period will contribute to how the retrograde plays out for us. Venus developments around love, relationships, friends, values, attraction, aesthetics, art, creativity, money, pleasures, social life, and overall social connections may go through some shifts and a sorting out process now and in the coming months.

The way we currently see or experience certain Venus ruled areas can change as this retrograde and post-retrograde process plays out. At this time, it can also be a good period to reconnect with old friends and loved ones. Venus is applying towards a square with Neptune in Pisces which will last until late May after the retrograde begins, and will begin to get strong from May 1st onward. At best this can be creatively stimulating or bring a spiritual/mystical dimension to our social lives. However, this can also reflect confusion, misunderstandings, disappointments, delusion, and issues around boundaries in our relationships, financially, or perhaps around other Venus areas mentioned above. Escapism with pleasures is also another way this can play out for many people. At the time of this New Moon, Pluto in Capricorn is almost at a complete stop from our perspective on Earth. This is because it is transitioning to retrograde motion on April 25th which will last until early October. Like other ‘outer’ planets, Pluto is retrograde 40% of the time and doesn’t have the same significance as the retrogrades of Venus, Mars, or Mercury. However, in the weeks when Pluto is stationary, (before and after retrograde begins) its overall energies become more apparent and we sometimes also experience a shift in areas ruled by that planet. This is especially so on April 24th-25th as Mercury forms a square with Pluto as it is changing motion. Communications or information may be intense or revealing during those days. This will also be extending the already strong Pluto themes we have been experiencing over the last 6 weeks, and in January, due to other planetary conjunctions (Saturn, Jupiter) and the last Lunar Eclipse connected to it. Pluto is deep, transformative, evolutionary, sexual, intense, and regenerating. It is associated with psychoanalysis and looking beneath the surface. Power, manipulation, secrets, subversion, abuse, jealousy, the underworld, conspiracies, shadows, and darkness are all under the domain of this sign. Pluto also rules viruses, and is likely that this retrograde (combined with other factors) can reflect going back and revisiting something pertaining to the covid-19 situation, or our perception of what is happening. In a previous article from 2017, I wrote about Pluto’s passage in Capricorn from 2008-2024. This is a period of major changes around government, banking, and business structures in the world which is becoming more apparent now as Pluto has been triggered by other planets. You can read more about that here. On May 4th/5th, Mercury will be in its ‘Superior Conjunction’. This is an important part of Mercury’s cycle with the Sun. At this point, some of the issues, themes, insights, perspectives, or ideas that have come up since late February or March (during and following the last Mercury retrograde), will reach a point in which we will have more clarity around them.

There can be a change or some sort of progress in relation to what has been playing for the last few months. It can even result in a beginning or ending due to increased certainty around certain circumstances. At this time, our minds can be more aligned with our true needs and self-expression from this period until late June. We can better implement whatever we have been thinking about with greater confidence and direction. This Mercury cycle fits perfectly into the unfoldment of the global pandemic and shutdown. I would expect that there will be some important news or realizations about it which will come up. at that time which may or may not be publicized. Perhaps there can also be different versions of this for different people with different levels of understanding around what is going on. Around this same time, on May 5th, the Lunar Nodes will be changing signs which will reflect a shift in energy coinciding with Mercury’s Superior Conjunction. After 18 months of being in the Cancer-Capricorn polarity, they will now be in Gemini-Sagittarius until January 2022. We will also transition into having eclipses in those signs because of this positioning of the nodes.

The next eclipse season in June-July will have the final Cancer-Capricorn eclipses and the first Sagittarius eclipse. Over the next few years, there is a push towards new expressions, or positive qualities, of Gemini while there will be changes around negative or outdated expressions of Sagittarius.

There will be both collective and individual manifestations of this. Gemini is associated with communication, facts, information, intellect, linguistics, the immediate/local environment, and is a social sign. Sagittarius is about beliefs, philosophies, media, higher education, international factors, and can be an overly broadminded and preachy sign.

These are examples of some areas that will be affected until early 2021 and I will be covering more about this in my future eclipse content.
