Russell Brand Once Again Exposes the Debacle That Is the U.S. Elections

The 2016 United States elections process could go down as one of the most ridiculous moments in the history of the United States.

Russell Brand Once Again Exposes the Debacle That Is the U.S. Elections

Every single year, thousands are glued to their television screens watching what they believe to be the process of selecting America’s next president. Despite the fact that we perceive the presidency to be a position of power, this simply isn’t the case, and they have orders to follow as well. During this year’s campaign, Bernie Sanders made that quite clear, as many before him have also done. During a debate with Hillary Clinton, he emphasized that “no matter who is elected to be president, that person will not be able to address the enormous problems facing the working families of our country.

They will not be able to succeed because the power of corporate America, the power of Wall Street, the power of campaign donors is so great that no president alone can stand up to them. That is the truth. People may be uncomfortable about hearing it, but that is the reality.” (source) Admittedly, we should never take one person’s word as fact, but with all of the leaks that have emerged, especially within the past year, exposing numerous political ties between corporations, government, and the financial industry, the truth of his message has become virtually self-evident. Even John C. Calhoun, the 7th Vice President of the United States, let the world know that there is a power within the government, and beyond, that is far greater than the people themselves, comprised of “many and various, and powerful interests, combined into one mass, and held together by the cohesive power of the vast surplus in the banks.” (source) Theodore Roosevelt made the same observation many years ago: Political parties exist to secure responsible government and to execute the will of the people. From these great tasks both of the old parties have turned aside. Instead of instruments to promote the general welfare, they have become the tools of corrupt interests which use them impartially to serve their selfish purposes. Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government, owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to dissolve the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day. (source) This is probably one of the most important facts to address, but rather than face the truth, we watch the circus unfold. Think about it and ask yourself, how ridiculous has the United Stats electoral process become, and why do we continue to follow and support a system that has been exposed, time and time again, as corrupt and self-interested? Hopefully Russell’s words here will give you something to think about. We need to wake up and recognize that participating in this game serves no purpose and will not create the change we so desperately need. What’s the next step? I don’t know, but I do know that the more people continue to question the system and increase their awareness, the more change we can create. A shift in perception, a shift in the collective consciousness, will spark the changes that are needed. For example, Genetically Modified Foods and the various pesticides sprayed on them are now banned in multiple countries, and this happened because the people started to become aware. Awareness is the start, and we are still in that phase. .
