The Latest Vegan Bodybuilder To Tackle Protein Myth (Video)
There is one question that irks vegetarians and vegans more than any other, and that is, Where do you get your protein? The general population has been sold this idea that protein only comes from meat and dairy products, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Just look at gorillas, oxen, or elephants — all herbivorous animals, all clearly getting adequate protein. So where does this misconception come from? I think it’s safe to say that the meat and dairy industry have done a great job of selling us on this lie. Every time we post an article on CE about eating less meat and animal products, there are always at least a few comments that say something along the lines of, “Every vegan I know is so frail, skinny, and sick looking.” If we are being completely honest, I’m sure that everyone knows at least a few meat eaters that are frail, skinny, or sick looking, too. As with any diet, there is a healthy way and an unhealthy way to follow it. If people are eating an abundance of processed food, vegan or not, they are unlikely to be at optimal health. More and more bodybuilders are beginning to turn vegan. This is great news because of the sheer amount of food bodybuilders typically need to eat. People often feel it’s impossible for a bodybuilder to be vegan, but there are a ton of examples that prove otherwise. Take Chui Chin-Hun, for example, a 21-year-old vegan bodybuilder from China who trains alongside other bodybuilders who follow a traditional diet. Check it out. Chui Chn-Hun is a perfect example of a vegan who gets enough protein. As said in the video above, he eats quinoa in order to get complete proteins, blending it up and drinking it in a shake. Being a bodybuilder means you need to eat a lot, regardless of whether that includes meat or not, so chances are Chui Chin-Hun drinks a lot of quinoa shakes every day in order to maintain his physique. And he isn’t just any vegan bodybuilder; he also won the 2016 championship for the Hong Kong Bodybuilding Tournament youth group, which goes to show just how far a vegan diet can really get you. This story aims mainly to give vegans who are tired of hearing the same question over and over again some peace of mind. Meat, dairy, and eggs are not needed or required in order to get enough protein. Now, regardless of this information, people will still refuse to believe the truth of this, and that’s okay. More and more people are starting to understand the benefits of consuming less meat and are opting to do so. Hopefully this inspires other bodybuilders who are consuming mass quantities of chicken breasts that there are other ways to get protein, and the lives of at least some animals can be spared.
