Full Moon In Leo: Passion & Purpose

We are having a Full Moon in Leo on February 8th/9th, depending on your location. This is the peak of the Lunar cycle that began with a New Moon in Aquarius on January 24th/25th.

Full Moon In Leo: Passion & Purpose

The energies of a Full Moon are strongest in the days surrounding it yet its astrological configurations still play a part over the following two weeks. You may also start to see its themes build up following the New Moon prior to it. Full Moons are a period in which we feel a push-pull between two opposing signs, in this case being the Moon in Leo and the Sun in Aquarius. It can play out as either a conflict, an integration, or some sort of dynamic playing out between the energies of both signs.

The Moon reflects the expression of feeling and emotion while the Sun reflects the expression of ego and conscious self. We may feel this opposition happening individually within us and/or we can also experience it play out around us with some people (or circumstances) expressing the Leo side and others expressing the Aquarian side. In some cases, Full Moons can also reflect/trigger some sort of change or release. Leo is a passionate Fire sign. It is about our individual self-expression, what brings us joy and inspiration. It is associated with the heart, love, creativity, performing, fun, children, romance, hobbies, and leadership. Leo is about what makes us great as individuals and can be courageous and generous. Expressed negatively, Leo energy can also be egotistical, pompous, dramatic, and demanding of attention or respect. Aquarius is an intellectual Air sign. It is associated with friends, groups, social networks, the team, and humanity. It views the unique and authentic qualities of an individual as an important and contributing factor to the collective. Aquarius is progressive, unconventional, innovative, technological, scientific, reforming, idealistic, and even revolutionary. Negatively, it can be aloof, overly objective, unrealistic, dispassionate, impersonal, and overly detached. This Full Moon is in a close applying trine with Mars in Sagittarius. This can reflect an energy that is action-oriented, assertive, lively, energetic, competitive, confident, or active. With Mars being in a Fire sign along with the Full Moon, the inspired, passionate, and fiery qualities of this element may be apparent or felt as well. Mars in Sagittarius can be expansive, explorative, ideological, or educational in its actions. In this sign, we may feel like we want to do more than we can handle, however, Sagittarius’ ruler Jupiter is in Capricorn along with Capricorn’s ruler Saturn. This can help to mitigate the overextending nature of Sagittarius in helping our actions to be more practical and structured. This will be even more pronounced after Mars enters Capricorn on February 16th. After Mars enters Capricorn, it will be making a trine to Uranus in Taurus which is strongest from February 18th-22nd. This energy is also directly tied into this Full Moon and may be noticeable in the 20 hours following it. This can be good for actions that are experimental, innovative, unusual, liberating, or progressive. Positive surprises and excitement may also be a theme for some people. Venus entered Aries a day and a half prior to this Full Moon and will be there over the following 3.5 weeks. We may be more proactive, bold, direct, spontaneous, passionate, independent, self-oriented, and competitive in our relations with others or in matters pertaining to love. However, we need to be cautious about being too impulsive when it comes to spending money and/or regarding pleasure. Venus is in a conjunction with Chiron which is strongest in the 2 days following this Full Moon. At best this can bring themes connected to wholeness and healing around love, friendships, values, money, aesthetics, or pleasures. This can also reflect taking an integrative or maverick approach in these areas. Venus will be in a square with the Lunar Nodes which is strongest from February 13th-14th but may be felt in the days leading up to that. We may feel like we are at a crossroads in areas pertaining to relationships, money, values, or aesthetics. This may be a period of breaking from the old and moving towards something new or a different approach. We may be considering the factors of the past and present, and how to pave the way for the future. Developments or connections made at this time can have a strong karmic theme. Mercury is slowing down to go retrograde on February 16th/17th mostly in Pisces and partially in Aquarius.

The pre-shadow period began on February 2nd. It’s good to keep in mind that certain things that are occurring in your life in the first half of February may be directly connected to some sort of retrograde process that is coming up. Perhaps a reorientation, revisitation, reworking, seeing things in a different way, or finding something out that you were unaware of may come up from mid-February until mid-March. As we get closer to the 16th it is good to be flexible and patient.

The common retrograde complications can gradually become stronger from now until the retrograde begins. I will be writing a separate article on this retrograde. You can click here to join my mailing list to get notified when it is published. Jupiter in Capricorn is moving towards its first of three sextiles to Neptune in 2020. This upcoming one will be strong from February 14th-26th with it peaking on the 19th-20th. This energy can be expansive and explorative both spiritually and creatively. It can also be good for idealistic pursuits/experiences, or anything involving putting time, energy, or resources toward helping others in need. Mercury going retrograde in the Neptunian sign of Pisces can accentuate this aspect even more so. Jupiter being in Capricorn helps us with a grounded approach and for many people this aspect may be reflected in business matters or ambitions. How can you better tap into your authentic self-expression? What inspires and brings you joy? What creative outlets do you like to express? What can you do to have more fun in your life? What are you passionate about? How does your authenticity fit into the group, and/or best serve the collective or idealistic interests? What can you do to bring healing and/or wholeness to matters of love or friendships? These are just some examples of what you may be experiencing during this period; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out. If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up it is best to do so anytime after the peak of the Full Moon or as it is waning over the following two weeks.

The exact moment of the peak will be on February 9th at 7:33am Universal Time. You can click here to see what that is in your ti.
