TB is always present in our environment but people only become ill with TB when their immune systems are weakened or damaged.

The World Health Organisation says, “About a quarter of the global population is estimated to have been infected with TB bacteria. About 5-10% of people infected with TB will eventually get symptoms and develop TB disease.”

Why, if TB is so common, do relatively few develop the disease?

Active TB disease occurs when the immune system can no longer control the bacteria, allowing them to multiply and cause illness. Conditions that weaken the immune system, such as HIV, diabetes, cancer and malnutrition, increase the risk of developing active TB disease.

Inactive TB (or latent TB infection) is when the bacteria are present in the body but are not actively multiplying, and the person is not sick or contagious. Inactive TB can become active if the immune system weakens, leading to active TB disease. People typically do not succumb to the disease unless their immune systems are weakened, making them more susceptible to the bacteria multiplying and causing active TB disease.

In his book, ‘The Silent Killers‘, Dr. Kevin Stillwagon explained what causes disease outbreaks:

Microbes are everywhere, all the time. They are part of the ecosystem; you cannot escape them. Enough germs are in your house or apartment to wipe out an entire city! There are more viruses in the breathable air around this planet than there are stars in the known universe, and it is estimated that you will breathe about 100 million various viruses every day whether masked or not. Why isn’t everyone dead? The answer is so obvious that it is too often overlooked: RESISTANCE OF THE BODY.

But what about the Black Death of the 14th century? How about all those American Indians who died from smallpox and tuberculosis? Didn’t germs cause these terrible epidemics? No. Poor environmental conditions and low resistance associated with these poor conditions caused the epidemics.

What could cause people’s immune systems to weaken so latent infections become active? Covid “vaccines,” for one. We have published numerous articles over the years about the detrimental effect the covid injections have on our immune systems, highlighting indications that the “vaccines” are causing vaccine-acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (“VAIDS”). Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (“AIDS”) is used to describe several potentially life-threatening infections and illnesses that happen when your immune system has been severely damaged. People with AIDS have an increased risk of developing certain cancers and serious infections that usually occur only in people with a weak immune system. Infections that would otherwise be mild in those with healthy, working immune systems.

Are “Attenuated” Live Organisms Harmless?

There could be another confounding factor for those living in countries where BCG is routinely given; the BCG vaccines themselves.

On its fact sheet WHO states, “Those who are infected but free of disease cannot transmit it. TB disease is usually treated with antibiotics and can be fatal without treatment.”

“TB mostly affects adults in their most productive years,” WHO states. Despite this, a vaccine is administered to newborns in regions where TB is common, typically as soon after birth as possible. “In certain countries, the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine is given to babies or small children to prevent TB,” WHO says.

BCG is an attenuated live vaccine developed from Mycobacterium bovis and named after its inventors, Albert Calmette and Camille Guérin. Mycobacterium bovis is a bacterium commonly found in animals but can cause TB disease in people.

“Attenuated” in medical contexts refers to a weakened form of a virus or bacteria used in vaccines to stimulate an immune response without causing the disease. The problem is that attenuated organisms don’t necessarily remain attenuated.

In 1962, Frank Fenner published an article in the British Medical Journal discussing the phenomenon of reactivation of heat-inactivated poxviruses, which was a general occurrence. His article also explored the genetic interactions and recombination between different strains of poxviruses, such as vaccinia virus, and the conditions under which these reactivations can occur.

Writing about the simian virus 40 (“SV40”) in polio vaccines causing cancer, the introduction to an article by Dr. Viera Scheibner stated, “The inactivation [of microorganisms] with formaldehyde is asymptotic, or incomplete. Within a number of hours (usually 40) most of the microorganisms are inactivated (about 75%) but afterwards, there is a viable residue of live organisms capable of multiplying and spreading indefinitely. When such inadequately treated vaccines are introduced into populations, even those organisms that were inactivated may revert back to their original virulence.”

Dr. Scheibner referred to Fenner’s article and said, “The so-called ‘exposed as infants’ and ‘unexposed’ groups developed these cancers at about 2-3 and around 10 years of age respectively, indicating that it took about that time for the inactivated viruses to revert back to the original virulence and also multiply sufficiently to cause these cancers … it also reflects that the method of inactivation carries all the inadequacies as described by Gerber et al and Fenner.”

The BCG vaccine is not attenuated with heat or formaldehyde but instead, Mycobacterium bovis, the agent of cattle tuberculosis, was attenuated through a process of long-term in vitro passage. This involved the repeated culturing of the Mycobacterium bovis organism through approximately 230 passages from 1908 to 1921 until it was sufficiently attenuated to be used in humans. After the initial phase of attenuation, further mutations occurred in various locations worldwide where BCG was grown in culture until 1966 when a seed lot system was implemented to prevent further evolution of the strains.

Could the same problem as noted by Dr. Scheibner with the reactivation of microorganisms in polio vaccines also occur in BCG vaccines? Could injecting infants with Mycobacterium bovis be setting vaccinated children up for active TB disease years later if the bacteria revert to their original virulence? Could mutations of Mycobacterium bovis used in BCG vaccines be causing drug-resistant TB?

TB Vaccine is Not Effective So Why is it Used?

The CDC gives three reasons why the BCG is not used in the United States:

the low risk of infection with TB bacteria in the US;
the variable effectiveness of the vaccine against adult pulmonary TB; and,
the vaccine’s potential to cause a false-positive TB skin test reaction.

WHO confirms the efficacy problems with the BCG vaccines.

“While it provides moderate efficacy in preventing severe forms of TB in infants and young children, it does not adequately protect adolescents and adults, who account for close to 90% of TB transmissions globally,” WHO states.

And, “[The BCG vaccine] does not prevent primary infection and, more importantly, does not prevent reactivation of latent pulmonary infection, the principal source of bacillary spread in the community. The impact of BCG vaccination on transmission of [Mycobacterium tuberculosis] is therefore limited,” WHO states.

So why is it used anywhere?

In October 2024, WHO announced: “US$22 billion are needed annually for TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care to achieve global targets by 2027 agreed on at the 2023 UN high level-TB meeting.”

WHO doesn’t state whether the treatment includes vaccines and, if so, how much of the $22 billion a year will be spent on vaccines. However, BCG is one of the most widely used vaccines, administered to more than 80% of neonates and infants in countries where it is part of the national childhood immunisation programme. And the stage is being set for the programme to expand to adults.

In January 2023, WHO launched a TB Vaccine Accelerator Council to facilitate the development and “equitable” access to new TB vaccines. The Council aims to overcome barriers in vaccine development by aligning funders, global agencies, governments and end users.

Additionally, WHO has developed a Preferred Product Characteristics (“PPC”) document for new TB vaccines, highlighting the need for vaccines that protect against pulmonary TB in adults and offer better safety and efficacy than BCG for neonates and infants.

Now that WHO has set things in motion for new TB vaccines, they will need a TB epidemic: problem, reaction, solution.
