This Man Is Talking About The Blind Eye We All Turn Every Day – His Speech Will Get You Applauding
Yesterday I was driving along the highway when I saw a woman standing next to her apparently broken down car. She was waving her arms trying to get some help from passing motorists.
. My initial reaction was to put my foot on the brake and pull up and offer some assistance. By the time the message got from my brain to the pedal I had already passed by the stranded woman.
The thought crossed my mind that I should turn around and go see if I could help. I was in a rush and had a meeting to go to and I was running late already. My mind was telling me she needed assistance and the right thing to do was to help, my analytical mind said she would be alright and didn’t appear to be in any mortal danger and another passing motorist would offer assistance. This happens to us all from time to time as we know what we should do when we see someone in need yet we ignore our initial reactions to go with what is more practical and self serving. We remain silent in our words and actions. We fail to tell the ones we love we actually love them, we avoid difficult conversations that can bring about reconciliation, we fail to act and do nothing when we know we should do something. This TED talk by Clint Smith reminded me we can all fall prey to silence and inaction. “We spend so much time listening to the things people are saying that we rarely pay attention to the things they don’t,” says slam poet and teacher Clint Smith. A short, powerful piece from the heart, about finding the courage to speak up against ignorance and injustice. (1) Source (1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiKtZgIm.
